I was really delighted with the quick response and advice I received from Ruffwear. April is a whippet/smooth fox terrier mix and has a deep chest, slender neck, and tiny waist, and weighs about 30 pounds. She's also very opinionated and strong-willed. After trying many harnesses, we settled on a sort of standard Ruffwear, but it would twist around and chafe her when she darted after a rabbit. Ruffwear recommended the Flagline. I ordered the Small in Basalt and after some adjustments it fits her perfectly. I sneak it over her head while offering a treat and she's getting used to it. It's much lighter than the old one. Once on, she's perfectly content with it. (I made more adjustments after taking the photo. Easy to adjust on or off her body!)

Today she is 5 months and I’m going to wait another 5to buy her another one.. fit very snug when she was little. She did end up biting almost all the way through the shoulder strap but great harness… sad how fast they grow up and it can’t fit forever lol
My 10 year old gets an upgrade! We’ve sported the Front Range harness for years, it treated us so well but needed an upgrade! The extra straps on the Flagline give her more support, and I love the idea of having a handle just in case we need it on tricky terrain. The material is light, comfortable and is quick drying too which is a plus! You’ve done it again, Ruffwear!
I got this harness for my 55lbs potcake for his first ever canoe trip. Because our route was rather portage-heavy and he is a good swimmer so I chose to get a harness instead of a lifejacket and could not be happier with this one. He wore this harness nearly all day for 5 days straight, getting wet in it, muddy, etc, and was so happy and comfortable. We even clipped his water bowl, treats, and muzzle to it, but because it fits him so well he hardly noticed the extra items. Its so easy to wash, and dried really quick on trip in the sun. Also he looks so cute in it and the colours suit his black fur so well.
This harness is lightweight enough to leave on my dog for long periods of time, as she needs assistance with stairs and, at times, getting her hind end up off the floor. I own several different Ruffwear harnesses, and have used them for the same reason (as well as walks and car trips) throughout the years. The handle on the Flagline is generously sized, and the harness fit can be customized with seemingly endless adjustability-positive note- does not rub under her front legs as a bulkier harness might, as the fabric is styled to avoid this. This harness does not make my dog too warm. Have used the Doubleback harness as a mobility aid in the past, it is heavy duty enough to support a dog's weight for a safe lift into a car or off the floor with full belly support. It is just too warm for my 14 year old girl to use for extended wear in summer. I purchased this Flagline harness "used" from Ruffwear, for a few dollars off with free shipping, and it looked brand new! Great deal, thank you.
Love this harness. Fits my dog perfectly. The handle is great for hiking if he needs a quick assist. Great piece of gear.
This has been a great harness for my escape prone dog, but I recently realized its putting pressure on my chihuahuas trachia in certain positions. The material in the front is very stiff and shaped so that any riding up does put pressure on the neck. I’m having to switch to a different harness now. I wish the front could be more v shaped.
My dachshund was the runt of the litter and still looks like a puppy @ 12 yrs old. He was a rescue, so I'm not sure he is not a miniature dachshund, but he's a little guy, 14lbs. I measured him before the purchase of XS Flagline, but the length covers his ***** so he can't urinate.
My dog is a 75-pound lab/pitt/boxer mix. He's an old guy, and I needed a harness with a handle to help him on stairs. This harness is too long on the lower body. Depending on the terrain and how he's standing, he sometimes pees on the lower back harness. I will have to get a shorter style. I don't think he has an unusually short body, so I would not recommend unless you have a dog with a particularly long torso. Harness is otherwise sturdy and the handle works well.
It doesn't seem to fit my Whippet even though that is the size he measured. I'll be sending it back.
